Reducing Waste When Moving

The amount of household waste each year is on the rise. We must do measures to reduce this to help curb the effects of global warming to our world. It is inevitable that some families have to move from one home to another. With the many home foreclosures, most of them don’t really have a choice. Moving alone poses a large percentage of waste. If you plan on moving, then there are many ways on how to avoid adding much to the waste which is already in the world.

You will definitely need boxes to pack your things when you move. You do not always have to buy new ones. You can save boxes from your past purchases which you can use. You can also check with local businesses and your neighbors if they have any leftover boxes. If you really have to purchase some boxes, the corrugated ones are highly recommended since these are with the highest recycled contents. You can also check with your moving company about renting reusable storage crates. This might even save you more money.

For your clothing, linens and other fabric, you can actually store them in bags and suitcases that you already own. For your fragile items, you can use newspaper to wrap them. Before moving, dispose of non-recyclable hazardous materials. Such materials are paints and cleaners. One common activity that you can do is having a garage sale. You can dispose of the items that you don’t want and need anymore. You won’t be bringing unnecessary things to your new home.
